Willie Horton Rookie at Tiger Stadium

A young Willie Horton in his rookie season at Tiger Stadium, 1963. At just 16 years old, Horton homered at Tiger Stadium during a high school all-star game. Whether on the field or off, the Tiger fans took Willie in as one of their own. I watched him break down crying as he ceremoniously took his old left field position on the night of the final game at Tiger Stadium in 1999. His number was retired by the Tigers in 2000, and a statue of “Willie the Wonder” graces Comerica Park.
