Thurman Munson


Thurman Munson, New York Yankees. After Lou Gehrig’s death in 1941, manager Joe McCarthy declared there would never be another Yankee captain. At least until Munson was named captain in 1976. Munson would spend 11 seasons with the Yankees, picking up a Rookie of the Year award, along with three Gold Gloves and an A.L. MVP as well. He would perish in a plane crash during the 1979 season.
