Hank Greenberg portrait

A young Hank Greenberg, the newest and youngest Tiger at 19 in 1930. They Yankees tried to sign “The Hebrew Hammer” a year earlier, but with Gehrig firmly in place at 1st base for the Yankees, Greenberg opted for college instead. By 1933, Greenberg was a mainstay in the Tigers’ lineup. The Hall of Famer’s number 5 would be retired by the Tigers in 1983 at Tiger Stadium.
