Charley Gehringer, 1939 at Briggs Stadium

Charley “Chas.” Gehringer, The Mechanical Man. Find me a picture of Gehringer smiling….very rare. This guy was all business at the park. A Hall of Famer, and the pride of the farming community of Fowlerville, Michigan, he spent 19 seasons in the big leagues at 2nd base, and of course, all with Detroit. This shot is from opening day of 1939 at Briggs Stadium. By the way, have you ever seen one of Gehringer’s autographs? Just for laughs, look it up and compare it to any modern day player!
